HTML Tricks – Create a Clickable Link

In order to have any success on the internet, you must know at least a little bit of HTML. In the long run, it will make your life much easier. Being able to create a clickable link can help you write articles, MySpace, Blogs, Posts, Forums, as well as link trading. There are three steps for creating a link.

Step 1: Decide on the clickable text.

This is the text that will appear blue & underlined (or however your website styles links). This text can be multiple words or even a paragraph! I wouldn’t recommend anything more than 2-3 words though. Ideally one will do the trick. The most common one is:

Step 2: Copying the destination URL

In other words, you need to copy the website address of where you want the link to go. For example, to link to WikiProgramming’s homepage, you would copy:

Step 3: Writing the code

Now comes the tricky part. We take all the information which we collected and apply it as so:

As you can see, we took the destination URL and inserted it in quotations after href=. After which we put ‘greater than’ sign followed by the clickable text. Then we closed out the element with </a>.

If you understood all this, great! If not, you may want to read up a bit on HTML. Understanding HTML Elements will help you understand what is going on in the code! Good luck!
