In the year 1980, a physicist called Tim Berners-Lee proposed and prototyped ENQUIRE, a system for researchers to share documents. Berners-Lee specified HTML as the language to communicate over the Internet and wrote the browser software in 1990. Tim Berners-Lee initiated and published the first website in the year 1991. Berners-Lee was the first to combine both Internet communications (email and Usenet) with hypertext.
